Green waste collections '˜could cost £60'
Since 2014, the district council has provided the fortnightly service all year around on a subscription basis, with those who use the service making an annual contribution of £25 in return for 25 collections per year.
Currently, the service has around 32,000 subscribers generating £800,000 per year, but the service costs ELDC around £1,246,000 to provide, - meaning it is subsidised by £446,000 per year.

Hide AdAs the district council needs to reduce its operating costs by around £6,000,000 over the next four years, the green waste service has been earmarked for review since December.
Residents who take part in the consultation are given four proposals for consideration.
The first proposal involves retaining the current service and finding savings from elsewhere in ELDC’s budget.
The second proposal involves increasing the cost to an estimated £60 annual fee, and retaining 25 collections per year.

The fourth proposal involves paying £35 a year for 21 collections, although the charge may be subject to an increase after 2017/18.
